Gilmartin Potter Band in City Island concert

Look for this band of newcomers on June 8th. They are set to perform at the Starving Artists Cafe on City Island, Bronx, New York. Aaron Gilmartin and Deborah Potter are two returning ex-patriots, back from a three year stint in Europe with a lot to say in their musical works. They use a mixture of Jazz, Funk, Folk and Pop in their performance with quirky humor on contemporary times. Worth a listen.

I caught them at a recent SIDEWALK CAFE performance down in the East Village and, together Gilmartin and Potter brought positive energy, lots of laughs and soothing insightful sounds to what can be a noisy and challenging audience. They stood their ground.

This 13-piece band, led by Argentine-born Pedro Giraudo, performs with a passion
and energy that are palpable. And while its underpinnings are Argentine, it has a
big-band sound in the tradition of such composers as Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus.
The original compositions and arrangements by Pedro Giraudo provide surprising
twists, turns, improvisations, and instrumental dialogues. There's a hint of South American
grooves and yes, a dash of tango to add to its appeal. The band members are each
masterful instrumentalists, and the arrangements highlight the unique talents of
each of them, artfully weaving together pre-composed and improvised elements.
