Charlie Parker Jazz Festival
Well Folks, THIS IS IT..... THE CHARLIE PARKER JAZZ FESTIVAL is a significant event in New York City. It is ALWAYS bitter sweet. That is, it signals the END OF SUMMER and, the end of the music festival season in the BIG APPLE.
As I write this, part one of the festival is underway UPTOWN in Harlem at Mount Morris Park. That is on Saturday Afternoon.
Part Two, where this important festival began, takes place DOWNTOWN in the East Village at TOMKINS SQUARE PARK on Sunday. This is the neighborhood Charlie Parker called home and, just across the street, the building where he lived, on Avenue 'B' is a shrine to the Jazz legend. The downtown event is also a Jazz Picnic, of sorts. Lots of room to move around to relax, party, feast, drink and, be with friends hearing some great music.
Do check out this link below for more details. Where ever you are, if you happen to be in New York City, this is one event, uptown or downtown, you do NOT want to miss.
